Essentials

We want you to fully enjoy your walk. So to make the most of them we strongly recommend that you bring along some things to keep you safe and comfortable. Iona enjoys a special climate which adds to it’s beauty and to your experience. The best way to describe the weather is ‘changeable’ so its best to be prepared for a variety of conditions. You may be putting in a little bit of effort on your walk. You’re on holiday so its a great excuse to have that big breakfast, it’ll keep you going to really get the best out of your exploration of Iona.

All walks start and finish from the St Columba Hotel, Iona. This gives you the opportunity for hot drinks, refreshments lunches or dinner before or after you walk. The Larder shop next to the hotel also provides take away teas / coffees sandwiches and other snacks. This let will let you stock up before heading out.

Some suggested things to bring along with you:

Strong, preferably waterproof, footwear.
Waterproof jacket or top layer.
Wear warm layered clothing and bring along an extra layer.
A hat can be useful in all conditions – a sun hat in bright conditions or warm hat for colder conditions.
A bottle of water or other drink.
A snack or bite to eat (you’ll be able to reward your exertion with that chocolate bar!)
Sun cream / sunglasses. It might surprise you that Iona is one the sunniest places in Britain!

And finally a bag or rucksack to carry it all in.

Please note there are limited bathroom facilities over much of the areas away from the village.

We require to give all our groups a short pre-walk briefing for their safety and to check everyone has everything they need to get the most out of their walk. If you’re missing anything vital please let us know, we should be able help out.
